AASU Cyber Security Research Institute (CSRI) to partner with The Washington Group and Bridgeborn

Savannah, GA, August 29, 2007 – Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) and the Cyber Security Research Foundation (CSRF) today announce the establishment of key alliances with The Washington Group International and Bridgeborn. These alliances will provide a secure collaborative environment for information sharing as well as advanced technologies and methodologies that are in the interest of national security.

AASU established the Cyber Security Research Foundation (CSRF) to contractually and financially support the projects being developed within the Cyber Security Research Institute (CSRI). The focus of these alliances is to leverage their experience and capabilities in the areas of cyber security and Homeland Security Research. “These alliances with The Washington Group and Bridgeborn will be mutually beneficial to the organization, the research Institute, AASU and ultimately to the population at large through the development of commercialized cyber security technologies.” said Randy Grubb, CSRI Director. “Additionally, they will also provide an opportunity for student internships, which will provide a unique and valuable set of learning experiences, professional mentoring and the possibility of career opportunities upon graduation.”

The first strategic partnership for the Institute is with The Washington Group International. The partnership named the Threat Assessment Security Center or TASC was formed in order to build a simulation and modeling facility and program with specific emphasis on supporting federal government initiatives in need of single or large scope simulation and modeling services and technologies. The program will also support state and local governments with Department of Homeland Security initiatives and mandates. Some of the services offered through the TASC include critical infrastructure protection, disaster recovery, nuclear safeguards and security, and terrorism protection supported by a team of experienced security and emergency response professionals from academia, industry, and government.

WSMS and its parent company, Washington Group International, provide integrated safety and security engineering, operational support, and management solutions for businesses and governments worldwide. WSMS has an expertise in the assessment, design, and application of physical security systems for the protection of high-value assets such as information, equipment, weapons, weapons platforms, and nuclear materials. WSMS is based in South Carolina.

The second strategic alliance is with Virginia-based Bridgeborn, a systems design, engineering and data integration company. CSRI is working with Bridgeborn to develop a Visualization lab, which will feature leading edge solutions for data fusion, integration and visualization. To support the needs of the lab, Bridgeborn will leverage Bridgeworks, its patent-pending data visualization platform that drives intelligence through visualization. Bridgeborn’s solutions include Cyber-Security, Training/Education, Logistics / Operations, Social Network Analysis and Critical Infrastructure. Current Bridgeborn clients include the Department of Homeland Security, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the U.S. Army.

Randy Grubb, CSRI director, said, “The Cyber Security Research Institute will allow AASU to engage strategic partners to perform strategic cyber security work to increase the security of our country, while at the same time educating and training students who will be become our next generation leaders in the industry.”

Armstrong Atlantic State University, part of the University System of Georgia, was founded in 1935.
